Find the Flash: Anaheim Comic Con

A pair of speedsters--one scarlet, the other deathly--flank our good friend Kelson Vibber in this photograph from Wizard World's Anaheim Comic Con. As he's clad in his Black Flash t-shirt, on this particular occasion it looks as if Kelson's in league with the villain! Visit Speed Force for a write-up detailing the events of the recent convention or to see Kelson's own gallery of photos from the event.

Find the Flash: Baltimore Comic-Con

Kelson Vibber's Speed Force recently featured this photograph of an eight-year-old Impulse fan in costume at the Baltimore Comic-Con. From the familiarly mussed hairdo to those outrageously oversized boots, the costume is perfect. This little fella looks like he's leapt right off of the comic book page! As always, you can visit Speed Force for more photos and related links.

Find the Flash: Dragon*Con

As Kelson Vibber has observed, there were scads of scarlet speedsters to be found at this year's Dragon*Con in Atlanta. Among the most impressive of the participating cosplayers was this collective of the complete Rogues Gallery! The accuracy of these vibrant costumes is amazing. Just look at Heat Wave's gas mask or the patches on Piper's cloak! The Rogues posed for numerous photos, including a rather grim recreation of the death of Bart Allen! But don't take my word for it. Visit Speed Force to see a collection of Flash related images from the convention or Dragon*Con's site for a mammoth listing of fan-submitted photo galleries.

Find the Flash: Chicago Comic-Con

Another summer weekend, another comic book convention. This means that the Windy City was overrun with costumed superheroes last week, granting us an opportunity to Find the Flash. This freeze frame captures two rival speedsters representing two rival comic book companies in a moment of intense competition. Fortunately, from this angle it appears as if the Flash has the edge on Quicksilver. Perhaps those stylish new forearm gauntlets are granting the crimson comet some renewed confidence? Visit Chicago Comic-Con's Facebook page for more fan-submitted photos of cosplay fun.

Find the Flash: Comic-Con '09

No, you're not seeing double. This snapshot, which could be appropriately subtitled "Flash of Two Worlds!," captures a pair of scarlet speedsters, both dressed in the distinctive garb of the one and only Jay Garrick. This particular photograph is extra special, however, because there on the left is our good buddy Kelson Vibber! Reporting from the floor of the San Diego Comic-Con, Kelson has observed that, for one reason or another, nearly all of this year's attendees dressed as the fastest man alive have donned Jay's classic costume; there seemed to be no Wally Wests or Barry Allens in attendance. It looks like Golden Age threads are back in style. Visit Speed Force to read Kelson's convention updates or to peruse his photo album. I'd say that winged tin hat suits you, Kelson!

Find the Flash: Wizard World Philly

Over at the amazing Aquaman Shrine, our friend Rob Kelly has posted a report on his recent visit to the Wizard World Philly convention. Rob made sure to snap photos of some of the best costumes he spotted amongst the crowd. Among them is a portrait of this familiar figure sporting lightning bolts and a winged tin hat. Jay Garrick's costume is an undeniable classic and it's always wonderful to see some enthusiastic Flash fan bring it to life.

Find the Flash: MegaCon

Kelson Vibber didn't spot the Flash during his recent visit to WonderCon, but it seems as if there were plenty of speedsters on hand at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida! At Speed Force, Kelson has posted a nice collection of snapshots and photostreams featuring fans who attended the event dressed as their favorite character from the pages of The Flash, including this pairing of hero and nemesis. Zoom looks angry enough--or perhaps he's just plain annoyed to be there! Visit Speed Force for more fun with costuming.

Find the Flash: Wizard World Texas

Wizard has posted a photographic walk-through of Saturday's events at Wizard World Texas. Among the costumed fans caught on camera was this pint-sized duo straight from the cover of The Brave and the Bold, a young Flash and Green Lantern. Judging by the heroic stance assumed by L'il Lantern, these boys seem like they would be a superpowered force to be reckoned with--that is, once they've grow into those masks of theirs!

Find the Flash: Comic-Con '07

As I noted yesterday, Kelson Vibber--the man behind Those Who Ride the Lightning--was on the floor at this year's Comic-Con International and reported on the event for Comics Should Be Good. As usual, Kelson ran into a few scarlet speedsters at the convention. Perhaps surprisingly, however, this year only Lady Flashes were to be found! Visit Kelson's blog to check out his Flash finds or to survey his complete photo album for Comic-Con '07.

Find the Flash: Wizard Costume Contest

There's more than one scarlet speedster among the entries for Wizard magazine's 15th annual Halloween costume contest. The Flash legacy looks to be properly represented. Here's a photograph of contestant Ryan Kelly dressed as the original Flash, Jay Garrick. The winners, along with a gallery of the various contestants, will be appearing in Wizard #181, on sale September 27.

Find the Flash: Wizard Costume Contest

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means that it's time for Wizard magazine's annual costume contest. This week Wizard began posting portraits of some of the costume-clad contestants at their website. Among the entries posted thus far is this photograph of one version of the Justice League of America, including a scarlet speedster.

The moon is full, wolves are howling, and the wind is whistling in the trees… the stage is set for our 15th annual Halloween costume contest in Wizard #181, on sale September 27! We’ll be running the winners in the magazine, but to whet your appetite for the big event, we're providing a sneak peek at some of the entries every day from now until the issue goes on sale.

Find the Flash: Comic-Con '06

Kelson Vibber has posted his photos from Comic-Con '06. The album features plenty of amusing snapshots of men and women who attended the convention in costume, including this photograph of the Flash waiting in line at a San Diego Starbucks! Are we surprised that the fastest man alive drinks at Starbucks? Also, it looks like the Flash keeps his keys on his belt, which can't be safe at high velocities. Then again, I don't suppose the costume has pockets.

Find the Flash: "Spaced"

Last night I was watching an episode of the hilarious Channel 4 comedy Spaced, starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, a program that can't properly be enjoyed unless you're a true geek. The episode -- "Epiphanies," from the first series -- contains an amusing sequence in which protagonists Tim and Daisy are embroiled in a hotly contested game of Scrabble. (One of the words Tim attempts to earn credit for is S-H-A-Z-A-M. "It is a word!" he insists. "I've got a pile of comics this big!") During the scene Simon Pegg can be seen wearing a red t-shirt emblazoned with the familiar Flash symbol. Although you can't quite make out the lightning bolt logo in this screen capture from the episode, you can spy a portion of the "Graphitti" trademark on the t-shirt's left sleeve, meaning Pegg's shirt comes from the same supplier that printed all of the Flash t-shirts that I own!
